More favorites: The Adventures of Blago

July 2, 2009

Here are a few more favorite cartoons as we continue to look back on the first year of Words and Toons (as self-indulgent as that may be).

Above is a cartoon of Rod Blagojevich, the shamed ex-governor of Illinois, appearing on Letterman. Blagojevich, after being impeached, was making the rounds on various “newsy” TV and radio talk shows, but I never expected him to do Dave’s show. I did this cartoon as a “how low will he go” scenario. A couple of days later, it was announced Blago was going to be on Dave’s show. Sadly, he didn’t bring the monkeys, but …

… not long after his Letterman appearance, Blago announced his intentions of being a cast member on the NBC reality show “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!” He would join the likes of Super Celebs Lou Diamond Phillips and Stephen Baldwin in the jungle of Costa Rica, where he would likely come face to face with monkeys!

So I correctly predicted Blago doing Letterman, and I almost correctly predicted Blago consorting with monkeys!

Alas, Blago never made it to the jungle (but his wife, Patti did), thanks to a judge’s ruling. So my predictions weren’t wholly accurate, but they contributed to some fun cartoons.
